WFR Instructor Training Course (WFR-ITC)

The WFR-Instructor Training Course is designed to familiarize qualified candidates with Desert Mountain Medicine’s (DMM) teaching philosophy, teaching techniques, and class management style. Instructor candidates will also cover the WFR industry standard “Scope of Practice” (SOP) and the DMM course curriculum, developed from the SOP.

After successful completion of the WFR-ITC (40 hours) and shadowing a Lead Instructor (LI) during a scheduled WFR course (80 hours), new instructors will be eligible to start teaching as part of an instructor team as an Assistant Instructor (AI).

120 Hours | Cost: $695

We are now accepting applications for our 2022 WFR ITC. Interested applicants should complete the ITC application and include a resume, which highlights their applicable experience. 

Application deadline: September 1, 2022

Interviews: Once all applications have been reviewed, selected applicants will be invited for an interview. The interview process will be completed by September 16th, 2022 and invitations to the ITC will be finalized shortly thereafter.

ITC Course Dates: Nov 14-17, 2022. 

 

 

Prerequisites:

  • Lead Instructor: Current WFR certification + MD, DO, NP, RN, PA, EMT, or WEMT 
  • Assistant Instructor: Current WFR certification
  • Current CPR
  • >2 years of teaching (outdoor ed preferred)
  • >3 years leading/guiding backcountry trips
  • Pre-hospital medical experience (ski patrol, SAR, ambulance, clinic, emergency dept., race medic, etc.)
