Course Info
This is a Hybrid Wilderness First Responder course with 30 hours of self-paced, online work followed by 50 hours or 5 days in person learning. The online section is available on Canvas® approximately one month before the classroom section begins and consists of reading, case studies, videos, animations, and quizzes. The online material must be completed by the start date of the classroom section.
Course Location
This course will take place in the Royal Gorge area of Canon City, Colorado and will be an entirely outside course. Class will take place under a large pavilion which has a roof, but no side walls (think pinic shelter). Please come prepared with layers and rain gear, just in case of challenging weather. May in Canon City is generally beautiful with daytime temperatures in the mid 70's and nighttime temperatures in the mid 40's. From time to time, afternoon showers roll in.
The course venue is only a few miles from the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, white water rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and both paid and dispersed camping!
After registering for the course, students will be provided more course logistics and lodging/camping information on their Desert Mountain Medicine student account.
