Course Info
The WFA Instructor Training Course (WFA-ITC) is designed to familiarize qualified candidates with Desert Mountain Medicine’s (DMM) WFA curriculum developed from the industry standard Scope of Practice.
This three-day training immerses you in DMM teaching philosophies, peer presentations and feedback, teaching tools, time management, and more. We aim to cover as many aspects of WFA instruction as possible. Beyond wilderness medicine content, our discussions focus on enhancing the student experience. As instructors, we strive to facilitate a learning environment that honors individual learning styles, acknowledges each person’s unique background, encourages participation, and is relevant not only to corps work but to life in general.
Each person will complete approximately 30 hours of online material prior to the course, and will be responsible for delivering 2-3 presentations to the group.
This course is designed for our conservation corps partners who wish to train their staff to teach WFA to organization members. Please reach out to [email protected] for questions, details about this course, or the progression to become an instructor.
Eligibility:
A person must have a current WFR certification from a company in the Wilderness Medicine Education Collaborative (preferably DMM) to be eligible for the WFA-ITC.
