Course Info:

This is a Hybrid Wilderness First Responder course with 30 hours of self-paced, online work followed by 50 hours of in-person instruction while rafting and camping on the Green River through Desolation and Grays Canyon, Utah.

Desolation/Gray Canyons is an 84 mile trip from Sand Wash Ranger Station and Launch Area to Swasey's Boat Ramp and Campground. The canyons offer outstanding scenery, interesting geologic formations, evidence of both prehistoric and historic human activity, and contain over sixty riffles some as challenging as class III/IV whitewater. 

The online section is available on CANVAS® approximately one month before the classroom section begins and consists of reading, case studies, videos, animations and quizzes. The online material must be completed by the start date of the classroom section.  

This all inclusive, in-person section is completely in the field and outfitted by Apakoa Rivers. The in-person section is 9 days and 8 nights on the river with food and lodging included.

Participants will meet in Green River, UT on April 3, and will be provided transportation to the river launch site. The river launch date is April 4th. Course participants will traverse Gray and Desolation Canyons, taking-out on April 11th near Green River, UT. Transportation will be provided to personal vehicles on April 11th.
