Wilderness First Responder (WFR) ITC
120 Hours

Cost: $695

The WFR Instructor Training Course (ITC)  is designed to familiarize qualified candidates with Desert Mountain Medicine’s (DMM) teaching philosophy, teaching techniques, and class management style. Instructor candidates will also cover the WFR industry standard “Scope of Practice” (SOP) and the DMM course curriculum, developed from the SOP.

After successful completion of the WFR ITC (40 hours) and shadowing a Lead Instructor (LI) during a scheduled WFR course (80 hours), new instructors will be eligible to start teaching as part of an instructor team as an Assistant Instructor (AI).

The ITC Pre-Requisites are:

  • Current WEMT and/or WFR certification
  • Current CPR
  • A Minimum of 2 years of teaching (outdoor education preferred).
  • A Minimum of 3 years leading/guiding multi-day backcountry trips.
  • Pre-hospital experience via ski patrol, search and rescue, ambulance, clinic, emergency room, race medic etc…

Desert Mountain Medicine offers competitive salaries ranging from $120 to $275/day,  paid travel, lodging, food stipends, continuing education and the opportunity to be part of a team of highly qualified instructors and leaders in the field of outdoor education and wilderness medicine.
